grammy gambling
I am sorry Elsa. I know I told I would stop by your house this weekend and then I didn’t do it, but I got swept into trying to finish a ton of job applications for next weekend. I would love to still help you with it, if you’ll have me.

I’m not sure if I am fond of this blogging business. I am still figuring out how to use tumblr. Allison was supposed to help me.

The most productive of Sundays
As I sit here eating my delicious nutella and banana crepe, sipping french press coffee at Bradburys, I am savoring the moment before getting down to business. For today I will be creating a powerpoint to introduce the characters and major themes of Fahrenheit 451 for my sophomores and applying to a ton of schools in Chicago so I am ready for the job fair on Saturday. I still haven’t...
You don't make this stuff up.
Sam: Who was this?! I am thinking either Demitri or Sonny, but I have no idea! I love these stories! PLEASE keep the coming.
This conversation was reported back to the lounge. Else, I would have died of laughter.
Scene: Breaking up two boys who were becoming verbally offensive towards each other. The student speaking is an itty, bitty guy. A one of a kind shrimp.
Student: Don't worry about me, he wouldn't get me, not with these guns of steel (proceeds to kiss biceps).
Staff: Well that's good to know.
Student: And on a personal level?
Staff: Yeah?
Student: I've got a penis of steel too.
Staff: That's a bit more than I wanted to know.
"Who I am" poem
In my creative writing class we are doing a play on the “I am from…” poem and instead are doing a poem to allow the writer to discuss who they are. After leading a brainstorming session today, I went home and wrote my poem for the students to workshop as a class tomorrow, before creating their own poem to bring on Monday. I figured since you all are some of the people that I...
Updates, updates, updates
I have been incredibly overwhelmed and busy the past couple of days, but seeing as I now have a moment to breathe I figured I would give you all some updates!
My friend Caitlin is doing very well. The bleeding in her brain has stopped and she will be out of the ICU by tomorrow, hopefully back in Madison by mid-February. We are all incredibly pleased that she is doing so well. She has been...
Yeah, you're probably right.
Oh God, was it Sonny who said this in all of his tiny Asian glory?
Student: So are you Thai?
Me: No, I'm actually part Cambodian and Chinese.
Student: Me too! I'm part Vietnamese too!
Me: Well, look at us.
Student: Do you speak Chinese?
Me: No, my parents always regret not teaching me any language besides English. I can't even use chopsticks!
Student: What?
Me: Yeah, I can't use chopsticks. I had to bring forks to restaurants in China.
Student: Man, you're Asian for nothing!
A little positive thought please
Hey everyone, could I get some positive thoughts for my friend Caitlin? Some of you have met her, she is in the elementary education program here at the UW.
This past week she was in and out of the ER for severe migraines, for which the doctors prescribed tylenol and suggested she sleep on it.
Friday evening her mom came to take her back to the doctor and she passed out. She was rushed to the...

Ok, Mama Bear coming out just a little...
I know, and I completely get it. I never wanted to imply that you were being insulting. It is heart-breaking for us all, regardless of age-range. I just hope to alleviate some of the fear of middle school that I know I had coming into it.
My roommates always make fun of me for calling them my babies, but they are!

You know I did not mean to insult you and your babies too...
Ok, Mama Bear coming out just a little...
I love everyone on here, you all know that. However I am going to take a moment and defend my babies with one statement.
Teaching in a middle school is not the end of the world.
I know, I know, we all want to go forward and teach high schoolers and are only spending time in a middle school because they are making us, right? Wrong. I have learned more in the last 5 months than I ever thought...
Todo, I don't think we're in middle school anymore
The scene: I am meeting my new 2nd hour students for the first time. My CT has introduced me and I have told them my name and that I am a senior at the UW.
Cindy (my CT): Does anyone have any provocative questions for Miss Huber?
Student 1: What do you mean provocative? Like has she done any drugs?
Cindy: *turns to me* Have you ever done drugs?
Me: Uh….not illegal ones. I have taken...
Gut-wrenching
It is heart-breaking to see that one of the countries that is having some of the most issues of poverty, deforestation, and disease has been struck by such a huge natural disaster. My thoughts are with the people of Haiti as they try to find those trapped in the rubble and, hopefully, are still alive.
VICTORY!!!!
Has anyone else noticed that the “tumblarity” is no longer at the side of your screen?!
I would like to think that my constant confusion and questioning of it is what made Tumblr take it down.
You’re welcome.
Half Day!!!
Like the lovely Sam Nham, I am overjoyed about having a half-day today. I was able to get a sandwich from Panera on my way home, eat it at an enjoyable rate, and still be able to tumble well before having to work at 2 today.
As I am sitting at home and thinking on my time at Jefferson since winter break, I am a little bored. Because my students are sitting and taking notes on their research...
Grand Entrance into Le Blogosphere
Jon, I am going to have to agree with Angee here. I do not think that there is one person among us who loves Twilight. And as for world saving, you were the one in Tara’s class who put up the number of kids that we could possibly interact with in our careers. I’d say that you kind of want to save the world a little too.
So, the mere fact that I am spilling my internal “feelings”...
We know what we are, but know not what we may be.

What did I get myself into now?
Kari! That’s amazing! You are one lucky lady.
klwarner: DUDE! CONGRATS! You will be fine, no worries.
I’ve been contemplating the economy, school district budget cuts, and my general lack of funds lately. So, I did some non-traditional job hunting. Conveniently, there was a job posting for a part-time ESL instructor at Blackhawk Technical College, so I decided to throw my hat into...
What?
akraemer3: Mine went from low teens yesterday to 0 right now, and it says that I haven’t posted anything in the last week, when I posted last nightish. So who knows what the hell happened.
So my “tumblarity” today was at like, 20-something, and in the past few hours, has gone down to 5.
Mixed Emotions
Today is officially my last day of winter break. I Just want to take this moment to say that I have absolutely loved having two weeks off to myself. I adored my time at home with my family and friends, and as much as New Years wasn’t what I thought, I still have enjoyed just being lazy around my apartment for the last couple of days.
I really and truly love my kids this semester. They...
New Year's Eve
I know that I always go into New Year’s with the knowledge that it will never live up to the expectations. If my last two new years before this were to believed, I should have just stayed with Elsa last night. Sadly I did not listen to my experiences and went to a classy New Years Eve party at my friend’s place.
We arrived to the party after waiting a while for all of my...
